Ocean Youth Trust Scotland’s Cumbrae Caper Challenge: Clydesdale Bank and KPMG

Teams from Clydesdale Bank and KPMG took part in a weekend challenge to raise funds for Ocean Youth Trust Scotland (OYT Scotland), raising over £12,000.

The Cumbrae Caper Challenge took place on board the Trust’s two sailing boats, Alba Venturer and Alba Explorer, and consisted of a sailing race, quiz and dingy race. The teams arrived at James Watt Dock Marina in Port Glasgow on Friday 9th September. Rising early on the Saturday morning, the sailing race started just outside Greenock and went round Cumbrae to Rhu, lasting for nearly 8 hours. It was a close race, and KPMG on Explorer, just pipped the Clydesdale team to the post. On Sunday morning, the teams went head to head in a quiz, followed by a dingy race in the marina. KPMG won all three challenges, but both teams had a fantastic time on board.

David McGonigle headed the team from Clydesdale Bank on Alba Venturer (pictured below), and was delighted how well the weekend went. Their team consisted of Clydesdale employees and partners, which provided a great opportunity to get to know each other better. David said “not only did this raise funds for a very worthy cause, it also provided learning, motivation and the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues outside of work.”

Jon Meeten was the team leader on Alba Explorer for the KPMG team (pictured below). He commented “Everyone involved had a great weekend. Whilst the competition part of the challenge is fun, the real reason we do this is to support the fantastic work that OYT Scotland do for young people. We are already planning for next year …”

“We are so grateful to both teams for their amazing support “ said Nick Fleming, CEO of OYT Scotland, “The money that was raised over the weekend will make a real difference to the work we do with young people, allowing us to inspire young people through adventure under sail. Thank you to both teams for the amazing support and we look forward to working with them both again. “
