Find out a little bit more about Abbie from our fun questions!
When did you start with OYT Scotland?
My first trip was in 2017 as a young person, I started sailing as sea staff in 2018 and joined the board in 2019!
What’s your favourite OYT Scotland memory?
I have so many! One of favourites is in 2019 I sailed on YLDP, we had just sailed through the night and during the last night watch we sat on deck and watched the sunrise, and dolphins joined us playing at the bow, it was a great end to a night watch!
What is your job outside of OYT Scotland and what particular set of skills do you bring to the organisation?
I am currently at University studying Child and Young people’s Nursing, however before I started University, I was involved with a young carer’s charity. I would hope that my passion for helping young people and my background working with young carers would be the skills that I can bring to OYT Scotland.
Why do you enjoy being on the board of OYT Scotland?
I enjoy being on the board because it means I can help the organisation continue to give young people such amazing opportunities on the waves.
What are your hobbies apart from sailing with OYT Scotland?
When I am not studying or Sailing, I love doing anything crafty like making things with my sewing machine or being outside, going for a run or hill walking with my family!
