This week we had a brilliant time back doing what we love, this time with the inspiring young people from the GK experience. We are buzzing to have them all on board again for voyage 2 in September. The voyages form part of the Scottish Government’s CashBack for Communities programme, which aims to identify and […]
Lots of learning and lots of fun being had on this weekend’s training voyage funded by YouthLink Scotland! Some of the highlights are below!
We had a great start to our delivery voyage yesterday, making it all the way to Tobermory! On the way we made sure everyone got a chance to take the helm and practice an “Man Over Board!” drill and Lesley even had a swim!
Alba Venturer heading up to her holiday with Gordonstoun Sail Training, can you guess where she was parked last night?
Last week heralded the beginning of the 2016 CashBack voyages, when young people from Midlothian spent the week on Alba Venturer and East Dunbartonshire Young Carers were on Alba Explorer. The weather was kind as each group rose to the challenge of sailing the two boats. They learned to navigate and steer the boat, hoist and drop the sails, tie knots and cook for everyone […]
Last week saw two Cashback New Horizons voyages head out into a foggy Clyde. The groups from Drumchapel and Falkirk sailed nearly 200 miles between them with Drumchapel, on Alba Explorer, stopping off at Holy Loch, Lamlash and Portavadie before returning to Greenock and Falkirk, on Alba Venturer, visiting East Loch Tarbert and Holy Loch before […]
Last week we welcomed groups from either side of the country as part of our Cashback New Horizons project. Alba Venturer was host to a group from Midlothian, and Alba Exporer was home to a group from Oban in Argyll & Bute. Both groups spent five days exploring the waters of the Upper Clyde before […]
Eight participants from the City of Edinburgh were given the opportunity to take part in an Ocean Youth Trust Scotland voyage funded with money from CashBack for Communities. The group set sail on 31st August to spend 5 days exploring the waters of the Upper Clyde, departing and returning into James Watt Dock in Greenock. […]
An essay written by Lewis Haig on his experience of adventure under sail “This year in school I was given the opportunity spend a week sailing a seventy two foot racing yacht built to circumnavigate the globe the ‘wrong way’ against all winds and tides, with Ocean Youth Trust Scotland (OYTS) from Oban to Greenock. […]
A great voyage report from a group leader: Gale force winds, rough seas and seven days spent almost entirely within the confines of the 72 foot ketch, Alba Venturer, set the scene for the West Coast Challenge Sailing Expedition 2015. Eleven cadets from across the UK together with two adult volunteers joined the OYT Scotland […]
