Dear ,
We hope you are keeping well.
See below a quick update on what we've been up to over the past few weeks and plans for the future!
Voyage Update(s)
Last weekend we had an all female group group onboard Alba Venturer from the Outdoor Partnership in Wales. This was a training weekend in preparation for their fortnight challenge voyage in March next year; travelling to all four nations!
Eddie (Group Leader at Action for Children) sailed with us last week and had this to say: “The sea staff from OYT Scotland were amazing with the young people and this contributed to a great experience.”

Office Closure The OYT Scotland office (and phone lines) will be closed on Friday 29th October and Monday 1st November. We are moving down the hall to room 18 which is a slightly bigger office that will allow better social distancing and more importantly; a sea view.
OYT Scotland Merchandise With the temperature dropping, it’s time to don our hats, scarves, hoodies and even ties (for those more formal but cold outings). With Christmas also just around the corner what better time to get yourself and loved ones some OYT Scotland merchandise? If that’s not convincing enough – you’ll also find massive savings on all clothing on our Online Shop!
Incident onboard Alba Explorer Alba Explorer suffered a small electrical fire on the morning of 21st September while motoring from Greenock towards Fairlie to be lifted out. Only OYT Scotland staff were on-board. The fire occurred within the engine compartment and was quickly extinguished. Alba Explorer was then towed back to Greenock. The incident was investigated by OYT Scotland Staff, and the primary cause of the fire was found to be water in the compartment, caused by the failure of the deep-sea seal on the propeller shaft. A series of recommendations were made as a result of this investigation. The incident, and subsequent recommendations, were reviewed by the OYT Scotland Safety Committee on 8th October. The staff’s recommendations were endorsed and some additional ones made. Some of the learning points from the incident are applicable to both of the Trust’s vessels and the remedial actions will be implemented during the winter refit of the vessels. The Safety Committee recommended the actions of the crew in dealing with the incident at the time, and in the subsequent reporting and investigation of the incident. Their response to the incident demonstrated the value of their training and of the safety procedures in place. Since the incident, Alba Explorer has been temporarily repaired, driven to Fairlie under her own power, and lifted out for her planned refit.
Tall Ships 2023 OYT Scotland will be taking part in several legs of the 2023 Tall Ships! Leaving from Oban on 26th June and sailing via Hartlepool, Fredrickstad and Shetland before returning to Oban for 6th August.
Kind Regards, The Team @ OYT Scotland NB: This message is sent from a no reply email address. |
