In a bid to showcase what being an OYT Scotland volunteer really means – and to help ease the boredom of lockdown – we’re putting the spotlight on a different volunteer each day.
Today’s volunteer: Abbie Stone
? Q: How long have you been a volunteer with OYTS and what’s your role?
A: I have been sailing with OYT for 3 years, and now I’m a full time Cadet with the Trust!
? Q: What and with whom was your first sailing experience & what made you come back for more?
A: I first sailed with OYT as a young person on Explorer in 2017, and it was the rush of sailing at 12 knots +, that I wanted to come back!
⛵ Q: Proudest or most memorable sailing moment?
A: My most memorable moment is sailing down the Irish sea, on the young leaders programme last season! My proudest moment is when I climbed into a crow’s nest terrified, while sailing towards a race in the sound of Mull!
?Q: Favourite part of being a volunteer with OYT Scotland?
A: My favourite part of being a volunteer is seeing young people overcome their fears on the boat, oh and having Pesto pasta while Sailing!
⛵ Q: If you were a boat, what kind of boat would it be and why?
A: I would be a catamaran sailing boat as the webbing in the middle of two hulls doubles as a trampoline!
