Cumbrae Caper Corporate Challenge

About

Our hugely popular Cumbrae Caper Corporate Challenge Weekends offer a unique and fun team building experience on the water. The event takes place on two of our sailing vessels, where each team of 12 must work together to rise to the challenge of competing against the other in a series of challenges. This includes sailing the boat around Cumbrae (or thereabouts – depending on which way the wind is blowing!), completing a main sail hoist challenge, a dinghy race, a tug of war, the infamous ‘boat dash’, the rolling Skipper’s Trials and a nautical pub quiz.

What’s provided

As part of a weekend challenge, we provide two nights on board accommodation, food and soft drinks, along with all safety equipment and waterproofs. We also provide a fully qualified sea staff – and there is no need to worry about whether you have sailed before or not, we are used to dealing with young people who have never been on board a boat before.

The benefits to you

Taking on a Corporate Challenge Weekend with us offers you an opportunity to move your business forward, whether by rewarding your staff, creating networking opportunities for regional team members, providing an opportunity to foster team unity or entertaining your most valuable clients.

What others say

We have had fantastic weekends with Barclays, Tilney Bestinvest (formerly Deutsche Bank), KPMG, Pinsent Masons, Ernst & Young and Prudential to name a few.

“The opportunity to take part was unlike anything I have done before. It was a lot more challenging than I had expected both, mentally and physically. Having zero sailing experience, I arrived slightly
apprehensive, however the OYT team made us feel at ease and within a short period of time we became a confident and competent sailing crew.” Ian Nicholls, Prudential

“I first sailed with OYT Scotland on a Corporate Fundraising weekend in 2012, and was so impressed with what the Trust did for young people that I wanted to get involved more. I’ve now been volunteering with the Trust as sea staff for seven years, sailing with young people and supporting the work they do.”
Colin McAdam, Standard Life

“If the OYT team can transform a bunch of accountants into a functioning sailing crew, and considering how much I learned over the few days, I can only imagine the skills they are helping to develop within the young people they work with every day. I had a fantastic experience and encourage anyone who has the chance to get involved in supporting this
great cause!” Tom McGowan, Ernst&Young

The difference you can make

By taking part in a corporate challenge weekend you enable us to deliver adventure under sail to more young people. Our sail training programmes aim to inspire young people to build confidence, learn life skills, gain qualifications and choose positive directions for their lives. Many young people have told us that taking part in a voyage has provided them with a life changing experience.

The cost involved

For our corporate challenges, we ask that each team raise a total of £6k (£500 per head; or £250 raised by each individual and match-funded by the company) to help provide funding for those young people who cannot afford to pay for the voyages themselves. Half the money raised will go towards the cost of running the corporate weekend, and the other half will go towards funding a voyage for young people, named after your company – so the more money you raise, the more young people we can help.
