Cancellation of Arran Sportive 2021
It is with much regret and following great deliberation that due to ongoing covid-19 concerns we have made the difficult decision to cancel the Arran Sportive 2021 on 4 September. Despite the continuing pandemic we had remained optimistic that, with the easing of restrictions, thorough risk assessments, and careful logistical planning we would be able to host the event as intended – albeit with additional safeguards in place. However between ferry cancellations and continuing concerns in general we have sadly had to make this tough choice.
In recent days, there have been Covid outbreaks among Calmac ferry staff, resulting in cancelled ferries and reduced crossings, creating uncertainty going forward. Further, given a spike in cases of covid on many of the Scottish islands, the Trust has a responsibility and duty of care to the residents of Arran who have always been so supportive of our event.
We fully appreciate that, given the cancellation and rescheduling of so many events in the last 18 months, this outcome may cause a great deal of frustration for many. Our event team feels likewise at the cancellation of what is the highlight of our event calendar year. We apologise and ask that you be sympathetic and understanding to this unavoidable decision.
All entry fees will be refunded as will any fundraising via VirginMoneyGiving. In these challenging times, should you still wish to donate this to OYT Scotland, then that would be greatly appreciated, please let us know.
If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to contact the events team at fundraising@oytscotland.org.uk
