Last week two of Ocean Youth Trust Scotland’s volunteers, Emma Menzies and John Baddeley, were delighted to be presented with an award of £1800 on behalf of OYTScotland. Aberdeen University’s Student Association Raising and giving (RAG) event is an annual charity week where hundreds of students work together to organise events and collections to raise money for local worthy causes. RAG events include the annual Student Show, the Torcher Parade, Aberdeen University’s Fashion Show and many others.
Emma, who studies chemistry at Aberdeen University, started helping out with OYTScotland’s Aberdeen shore group this year and has been volunteering as a bosun for many years prior. She said that the event was very enjoyable, starting with drinks, socialising and nibbles and then onto the presentations themselves.
In line with the application, Emma and John plan to use the kind donation to help support some of the worthwhile voyages from Aberdeen based groups this summer.
