Patrons

Ocean Youth Trust Scotland are extremely grateful for the very generous support we receive from our devoted patrons, Curly and Barbara Mills.

Even just a week afloat can transform young lives by revealing how each can play a significant part in a team which has to overcome difficulties to reach their objective. Have enjoyed many years of sailing themselves and been successful in helping to create leading edge businesses, Curly and Barbara feel privileged to be part of the OYT Scotland team which has become a world leader in the field of sail training.

“Ocean Youth Trust Scotland helps to improve the quality of life of many hundreds of young people. Life at sea requires teamwork and self-reliance, decision making and judgement and as a result, people ashore are helped too. Indeed, sometimes parents and teachers can hardly recognise the young adults who step off the boat as being the same children who stepped aboard only a few days before. We are delighted to be a part of that. Congratulations and well done everyone!”

Committees

Training Committee

The Training Committee meets regularly to discuss the training needs of our volunteers and staff, and the planning of our Annual Training Seminar.

The committee is currently chaired by Norma Norris.

Safety Committee

This committee meets bi-monthly to review the Trust’s safety arrangements at events, the refit site, the office and of course on board the boats.

This committee is currently chaired by Steve Young.

Safeguarding Committee

This committee meets throughout the year to review any reports that have been submitted regarding crew incidents i.e. illness whilst on the boat, accidents etc.

This committee is currently chaired by Bill Miller.

If you feel this would be an area that you could support the trust in due to your experience then please contact us to discuss this further.

Youth Voice

A youth forum made of some of OYT Scotland’s young volunteers, called OYT Scotland’s Youth Voice, meet regularly and feed back to our Staff Team and the Board of Trustees. The forum is consulted on matters such as the development of programmes, the design and delivery of SQA Qualifications and the future strategy of the organisation. One member of the forum attends each OYT Scotland Board meeting, and all the Youth Voice members are invited to attend our AGM and are involved in the presentation to our membership on the Trust’s annual activities.
