Dr Dave MBE

We are thrilled to announce that our own volunteer Dr David Murray was awarded an MBE for services to healthcare and the community this month in the Queen’s birthday honours list.

A long-serving Wester Ross GP, Dr Murray (or Dr Dave as we like to call him here at OYT Scotland) retired in 2015 after 30 years as the local GP for Lochcarron and surrounding areas.

Originally from Kilbirnie in Ayrshire, Dr Dave spent a year in Broadford on Skye before taking up a vacant post in Lochcarron in 1985. He became a pivotal figure within the community, playing an active part in the efforts to establish the Howard Doris Centre for elderly people and in forming the successful Lochcarron Sailing Club.

Dr Dave has been volunteering with OYT Scotland for 10 years on the boats as a First Mate. He currently serves as a board member and is medical advisor to the office. Congratulations Dr Dave MBE!
