Get to know the OYT Scotland Volunteers! ⛵

In today’s “Meet the OYT Scotland Volunteers”, we’re featuring one of our longstanding and loyal volunteers who works hard to support the Trust both at sea and ashore.

Today’s volunteer: Ann Baddeley

⛵ Q: How long have you been a volunteer with OYTS and what is your role as a volunteer?

A: I started to volunteer more than 10 years ago. I am a First mate but also a shorebased and practical instructor. I am also involved with the North East shore group.

⛵ Q: What and with whom was your first sailing experience and what made you come back for more?

A: I first sailed as a young person on Taikoo with Ocean Youth Club back in the last century! We had a great experience on the West Coast and after years of sailing with friends and family I came back to OYT. My first trip was with the Whitehaven youth project. It was a fab group who seemed to get loads out of the trip and I was hooked with the youth work element of what we do.

⛵ Q: Proudest or most memorable sailing moment?

A: Calling the tack to turn south having rounded Muckle Flugga on a challenging trip!

⛵ Q: What made you start volunteering with OYT Scotland?

A: My own experience as a young person.

⛵ Q: What is your favourite part of being a volunteer with OYT Scotland?

A: The warm fuzzy feeling I come home with after most trips.

⛵ Q: If you were a boat, what kind of boat would you be and why?

A: An old reliable sailing yacht
