Pedley Takes on IronMan

Alumni David Pedley is testing himself to the to the limits taking on the IronMan 70.3 in Lanzorate in September- and raising funds for OYT Scotland at the same time.

“I foolishly found myself hanging around with too many middle aged midlife crisis types. In a moment of weakness I agreed to take part in a half ironman triathlon.”

Located on the northern edge of the Canary Islands off the northwest coast of Africa, IRONMAN Lanzarote is considered by many to be one of the toughest IRONMAN 70.3 events in the world. The event takes place on the 19th September and encompasses swimming in the lagoon in front of Club La Santa, followed by a challenging bike course which goes all around the north part of the island with the stunning climb of 550 m from 44,3km to 56,1km. The third leg of the event is running, which starts and finishes in Club La Santa stadium and consists of three laps of 7 km each.

David stated that he decided to OYT Scotland to support “because of the inspiring work they do with young people and because, when aged 14, they were in the right place at the right time for me.” As a youngster, David sailed out of Liverpool on the Greater Manchester Challenger on Taikoo back in the days of Ocean Youth Club.
