Welcome back, Venturer!

Ocean Youth Trust Scotland is proud to announce that 2015 will see the return of its flagship vessel, Alba Venturer. A generous donation from patrons, Barbara and Curly Mills, has kick started our fundraising efforts to refit Alba Venturer and bring her back into service in 2015.

Alba Venturer was launched in 1999 and has taken approximately 5,500 young people to sea. Due to the greater costs of providing her with a mid-life refit, she was taken out of the water for a year in order that we could refit her properly for 2015. On receipt of Mr. & Mrs. Mills’s kind donation of £25,000, OYT Scotland Chief Executive Nick Fleming commented: “I’m absolutely thrilled. She’s everyone’s favourite boat and we were pained to lay her up, even for a short period of time. I can’t wait to see her back out on the water, doing what she does best, and that’s all thanks to Barbara and Curly’s kind donation. Thank you!”

Barbara Mills also commented: “We’re delighted to support the refit of Alba Venturer. She’s the perfect boat for sail training, especially for the younger teenagers. We can’t wait to see her back!”

To date, Alba Venturer has sailed 96,000 nautical miles; 2015 will see her break the 100,000 mile mark. If you’d like to help us do that then you can make a contribution towards Alba Venturer’s refit by emailing office@oytscotland.org.uk or calling 01475 722 722.
